Longshaw Fell Race and Salford Nocturne.

I haven’t ridden my bike this weekend, as I’ve got a sore bum at the moment.

Instead we all went to watch the Longshaw Fell Race in the morning.  Then in the evening James and I went to watch the racing at the Salford Nocturne.

Here’s some pics.

Audax - A bike ride that’s different.

I’ve seen my arse with 24 hours of riding round muddy fields, wanted a new challenge, so I had a look round, and found the Audax website.

Audax rides involve a set route that you cover at your own pace with a series of checkpoints to pass through, and a minimum and maximum speed range (yesterdays was 15-25kph). So not a race, just a ride with goals.

Audax route map

Lisa had been kind enough to sort us out an entry for the Staffordshire Peak Super Grimpeur. 110K starting just down the road in Marple and heading down south into Staffs. on nice quiet roads taking in some 2500 metres of climbs en route.

The wonder of these rides is that there really is no rush.  We stopped in Langnor for some tea and cakes, and later for some liquid refreshment in Ye Olde Royal Oak at Wetton. Yet still we were some of the first ones back.

Oh and the entry fee, a staggering £4. As refreshments weren’t provided at the end we got £2 of that back.

If 110K seems a bit gay then theres always the 1400K London Edinburgh London in July to look forward too.

Right where are my SPD sandals?

A New Camera.

I’ve at last made the transition from compact camera to the mighty Digital SLR.

It’s all Ann’s fault. If she hadn’t let me borrow her Canon 350D and enable me to take some better than usual shots, then I wouldn’t have felt the need. What has always dissuaded me from getting a DSLR has been the bulk, after all they don’t fit in a jacket pocket do they? Oh yes, and they weigh a ton too. The advantages in image quality though are fantastic.

So I’ve bought a Canon 30D body and a couple of lenses, a Canon 17-85 IS and a Canon 70- 200 F4.0 L . They’ll do for now, though a 10-20mm Sigma is on the shopping list.

As well as a new camera, I’ve bought Photoshop Elements for post processing. I’ve used GIMP a free utility in the past, but I never got on with it really.

So below are a few pics. More can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/peakcyclehire/
